Workshops

Note: for upcoming workshops see Upcoming Events Tab

I would be happy to lead a workshop for your group. You may select one of the following workshops or I can customize a workshop just for you.

In my workshops you will learn new techniques in a relaxed atmosphere. We can mess around with thread, drink tea and eat cookies. I want you to have fun and, in the end, be amazed at the art you create.

Please feel free to contact me for more information or to discuss the possibilities for your workshop.

I am also available to present Powerpoint lectures about creativity and about my work.

Machine Embroidered Sunflower or Echinacea

Workshop Length: 2 days (12 hours)

Skill level: Beginner to Intermediate

Kit Fee: $25.00

Learn to draw and colour with your sewing machine. In this class you will learn how to paint a close-up garden scene on artist’s canvas with acrylic paint and then add sewn texture to your painting. You will learn how to set up your machine for free-motion embroidery which allows for the exciting possibilities of drawing with your machine. There will be time to experiment before starting the final project- a picture of a Sunflower or Echinacea flower (approximately 5” x 7”). Each flower will be unique and the flower centres will be highly textured with the possibility of adding some hand embellishment. By the end of the class, you and your machine will be creative friends. (A flower photo will be supplied by the instructor)

Machine Embroidered Landscape

Workshop Length: 2 days (12 hours)

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Kit Fee: $25.00

In this class you will try your hand at a painted, machine embroidered landscape. Whether you are new to machine embroidery or already know the basics, you will have fun as you start to play with paint and textures. After that, you will choose one of several provided scenes and paint the background with acrylic paint. Next, embellish and add visual interest and depth with machine embroidery. Finally, you will add even more texture with bobbin work and appliqué. Your completed piece (approximately 5” x 7”) will make a beautiful framed work of art. For the workshop you will require a sewing machine that is in good working order.

Branching Out in Machine Embroidery

Workshop Length: 2 days (12 hours)

These methods include: confetti work, bobbin work, fringing, appliqué and couching. Add your own variations in colour and design to create your own frameable artwork. This class is for those who would like to try machine embroidery, and for those machine embroiderers who would like to branch out with their technique.
